Welcome to the podcast. Becky, Alex, Destanie, and Kenny are new to podcasting, but definitely not Dungeons & Dragons. Making This Could Get Dicey is a lot of fun for our four hosts, but understanding the ins and outs of D&D is not necessary to join in on the fun.
The hosts begin with their ritual of introducing themselves and sharing a beautiful thing in their life right now. Destanie Nieto, playing Lü’mis Bjorn, says it’s a beautiful day to jump on the Bluey bandwagon. Alex Villarreal, playing Ellis Vendove, thinks it’s a beautiful day to listen to some new music. Kenny Chilton, playing Emil Mayzak, thinks it’s a beautiful day to read some old diaries. Last but not least, Becky Schmader, our dungeon master, is ready to do some world-building. We are introduced to the musical stylings of Alex Villarreal while Becky paints us a picture of Dreugala, our world. Ready?
This story takes place in the year 261 Era of Arcana, on the continent of Eistrune. The magic in this continent is very present and powerful. We find our protagonists tied up in a cave at the beginning of their story together, having been ambushed and brought here independently of one another. They are being shaken down by some bandits as we get our first look at the three.
- Emil is a brown-skinned human man, wearing a nicely-tailored suit.
- Ellis is a fair-skinned half-elf with long tousled hair whose boots stand out as custom made and very nice, along with his opal ring.
- Lü’mis, he’s been here the whole time. His dark, sallow complexion and clothing make him almost blend into the shadows.
We get our first roll as Ellis resists a bandit’s attempt to steal Ellis’ boots, but a natural 2 doesn’t do the job.
When left alone, the group successfully frees themselves and meet one another, developing a plan to try and diplomatically escape before resorting to violence. The three agree to finish their travel to Mistfall together, for safety on the road. The bandits have other ideas, though, and a fight ensues. In the fight, we see Ellis’ bardic magic inspire and hurt. Lü’mis’ combat prowess doesn’t stop at his spear work, he also has the ability to drain life from people he has just killed? Emil pushes a woman into a fire, but not much more. With all of his companions killed, a lone surviving bandit named Gramps remained. Emil convinces the group to let the man leave with his life. Surely he won’t become the big bad of the campaign or anything… right, Becky? Right? Becky???
With their first group effort a relative success, the group embarks toward Mistfall together, taking the last few hours to walk as they get to know each other a little. And that’s the first episode! Our heroes are together, they’ve survived one encounter, and now we will see what Mistfall has in store for them.
