Another episode means another round of beautiful things! We don’t need to describe it every time but suffice it to say Becky needs a tummy doctor, this is the first of the group begging for a sponsor, and remember that talking mummy video?
Mistfall is a really beautiful place. It’s like the fantasy version of the Pacific Northwest of the US. Windcrisp is the month, and appropriately the weather is similar to Fall, where you can start to wear a sweater and the leaves satisfyingly crunch underfoot.
An absolute bop of a song accompanies our first visit to The Squirrel’s Folly, a tavern and inn, built onto a large tree. There is an enormous lift that brings the audience to one of our favorite NPCs, Elaran Sage, the firbolg proprietor of The Squirrel’s Folly. She is an absolute delight both to the PCs and anyone listening, and I will personally fight anyone who disagrees.
In the comfort of the tavern, Ellis, Emil, and Lü’mis get to know each other. Right off the bat, we see (or rather, don’t see) that Lü is a pretty dark dude, literally and figuratively. He blends into the shadows and travelled to Mistfall to learn more about death at the Academy of Mistfall. Uh, okay? Emil is also in Mistfall for the Academy, looking for a botanist who can tell him about a rare plant he wants to sell in his store back in Venzor. He is fascinated by the success of The Squirrel’s Folly and generally loves talking business. Ellis is dropping gold left and right for the group, and we learn he calls everyone a “fool” because it’s an east coast thing!
In the conversation, Emil is absolutely roasted for his performance in the fight the day before, rightfully so, yet the group decides to stick together. Emil thinks he can help the other two make some good coin if they stick with him! Besides, if they left him to his own devices, he’d clearly die in the woods.
Elaran helps the group meet Dev Laseer, who works at the Academy. He’s busy reading books (really? at a tavern?) so doesn’t want to join the group but is willing to let them know there’s an open house at the Academy tomorrow night. Perfect!
But the group isn’t done yet. Ellis finds some luck at a table of low-stakes gambling while Emil and Lü sense an opportunity at the table of two women arguing about a job gone awry. An orcish woman, Zenna Hab, tells the two about a caravan that was ambushed, leaving behind an important plant she was hoping would arrive here. The human woman in the duo, Elizabeth Lavax, isn’t so eager to share the job, but relents. Lo and behold, Zenna Hab is married to Danielle Stravich, the professor Emil needs to see. We love when things just work out like that! So the first job our protagonists take on together is to go find this box of mysterious plant matter and bring it back safely. They arrange to meet at the academy tomorrow for an introduction to Danielle Stravich
That’s it for this episode! It’s happening, everyone. Nobody panic, but this seems like the making of a classic D&D trio. What could go wrong?!
