Welcome to Dreugala

Every week we find ourselves relaxing from our 9-5s and stepping into the world of Dreugala, but what is Dreugala?

Well, it is a planet that I (Becky) created! I thought it would be fun when creating this world to explore how arcane magic came to be and how each continent could have a different origin to that arcane magic. Aigia’s magic came to be when draconic sorcerers were first blessed by the dying bronze dragon Gindil with magic powers to defeat the black dragon Alrier. Eistrune represents wild magic, where the arcane seems to float in the air so thick and palpable you could almost catch it. And then of course we have our mysterious third continent of Dreugala which unfortunately I haven’t figured out yet. Sometimes it’s okay as a dungeon master to just know what you need to know in the present moment.

And sometimes as a dungeon master, it’s okay to go on a spiral and figure out things that aren’t super pressing to the story, like what star Dreugala circles. Dreugala circles a large star called Uliri and has 3 moons of its own. Duitania, Eumia, and Ollion. Each moon represents a different cycle of time. Duitania represents the month, going through a full moon cycle every 30 days. Eumia represents the seasons and goes through a full moon cycle every 90 days. Lastly, Ollion represents the year and goes through a moon cycle every 365 days.

The story of our first campaign takes place in the Era of Arcana. This is an era in which arcane magic has become super prevalent across Eistrune and Aigia. People know arcane magic, they study it, they’re expanding upon it. And we can see that in our first campaign as people move beyond that which is in books and into the unknown of arcane inventions. Before the Era of Arcana was the Dawn of Arcana. During this era, arcane magic was very very rare, if not seen at all. The gods blessed followers with holy magic, and nature taught those interested how to weave abilities. But there were no sorcerers, no warlocks, no wizards even. That is until people learned how to harness wild magic and a select few were given draconic sorcery. The world was simpler but not necessarily safer. There is one more named era, the Era of the Lost. I’ll leave this one to be a mystery as it unfolds in our first campaign for now.

Travel between the continents is rare and expensive, done mostly by ship for trade, or by the wealthy for leisure. For those adept in teleportation magic it is possible to teleport between the continents as well, but this is not something accessible by the general public. People know of cities on Aigia and Eistrune and maybe even cities on the mysterious third continent, but that is about the extent of the relations between them in the Era of Arcana.

Dreugala has a calendar year very similar to ours, so similar it even shares the names for the days of the week, something I, Becky, will never live down. It does however have its own months, which are as follows:

Winter’s Thaw – First month of spring

Flower’s Root – Second month of spring

Blooming – Third month of spring

Sun’s Dawning – First month of summer

Shower Fall – Second month of summer

Bounty’s Breach – Third month of summer

Wind Crisp – First month of fall

Hallow Moon – Second month of fall

Bounty’s Yield – Third month of fall

Wither Leaf – First month of winter

Sun’s Setting – Second month of winter

Freeze Fall  – Third month of winter

And that covers all the basics around the world of Dreugala. There’s much more to expound upon, but I hope this gives you a better basic understanding of our world. I look forward to continuing to build and shape this world for you, our listeners!
