Ep. 5 Recap – Vase Damage to the Head

So, Gramps is giving the group the cold shoulder. He’s acting like he doesn’t even know them as Ellis, Emil, and Lü’mis head inside this cool tree house for a meal with these pixies and some other people who are clearly being mind-controlled. Apparently, Gramps is now called Theodore, which definitely doesn’t fit.

Everyone sits down at the table, partly against their will. A very old pixie, Nanny, has some magical powers that affect willpower, and it’s not looking safe or chill or good or fun anymore. As the group resists eating the food, they get some bad vibes from the group. There’s a mind-control situation happening with these randos and Gramps, but the pixies get violent as the group tries to leave.

A fight ensues. Vases are thrown, as are very nice plates and such. At one point, pinned to the wall by one of Lü’s spears, Nanny is looking rough. Then, in the flurry of action, Emil’s teeth get scary long and he takes a damn bite out of Nanny’s neck/head area. It’s a gross scene. In the fight, Lü gets a killing blow and takes some of the life essence from the pixie as it dies. It’s wild in this tree house right now.

Eventually, the pixies are finished off or fleeing, but Emil has been exposed. Something is up with him that he hasn’t let on. The three let Gramps go, maybe against their better judgment. If he ends up being the big bad, it’s gonna be a bad time for him. They get back on the road and it’s time to answer some questions.

Ellis finds out Lü is a vampire as Emil did the day before. Lü isn’t the type of vampire that kills or tries to turn people. He is a “vegetarian”, sustaining himself in other ways. Emil doesn’t like what he did in the house, and would rather not do it again. He fills in the other two about his background. He was an orphan, a thief, and often scrapped his way through life before he was a businessman. He can barely get through the explanation of why he doesn’t like violence before he’s in another coughing fit.

Emil implores the group to not let this violent side of him be their perception of him, and he also begs them to not let the public know. This is not how he wants to be seen by his customers or the public. Lü brings that centuries-old wisdom, saying, “it gets harder and harder to mask who you really are, so don’t let that get to you.” Emil wants to be a businessman, through and through. Nothing else.

Ellis is a little bit cagey about any personal information. He loves his ring and boots – they’re super nice after all. But the ring is his mother’s, so there’s some sentiment behind it. He still writes to his mother back in Honeygarde. Lot of fools out that way.

Things are getting serious out here! People are getting to know each other, for better or worse. But the group is vibing. They’re all violent and dangerous in very useful ways. We’re just gonna say it … maybe we need a name? A group name is good for morale, good for business, it’s a win-win!

One last question as the group gets to know each other – can Lü ever die? The answer is … he’s done it once before, 200 years ago. This group is as mysterious as they are dangerous! Lots of characters talking to each other in this episode – Becky did a whole yoga routine while they talked. Onward to the mission!
