Ep. 6 Recap – Mister Essential Oil

This episode starts with the worst string of words Kenny could have possibly put together. We won’t tell you the context, but he does say the words “suck me dry” in character, and it was terrible. Onwards.

Their travel the next day is uneventful. While camping, Ellis tries to help Emil’s cough by making some tea. Good intentions don’t always equal good tea, however, and Emil dumps it without Ellis seeing. The group talks about themselves. Lü’mis talks about seeing the same things over and over again for several years now. People are corruptible, they die, etc. The boys promise Lü they won’t be corrupted, promise! Emil points out to Lü’mis that even though he’s been around for a couple hundred years, he still thinks about things and finds them interesting, and that’s pretty cool. This distracts Lü’mis enough to not see the fucking owlbear that attacks them in their sleep.

The group springs into action and blows are traded. Emil ditches the dagger for a different weapon, his hands have turned into wooden swords?? Lü takes a big hit eventually and goes unconscious. For Lü’mis, that looks like turning into a mist that hangs where his body used to be. In the mist that used to be Lü’mis, Emil sees a visage of Dotathal, the goddess of death. Emil eventually uses that twisted root hand to heal Lü back to his corporeal form. Ellis finishes off the owlbear, and the attention turns to Lü’mis and Emil.

Lü explains that he cannot die, not like the others. He turns into this mist when he goes unconscious, and seemingly is able to be healed. It’s crazy, but is it crazier than Emil revealing that he has a sickness that is slowly turning him into wood? It’s the whole reason he’s out here looking for the indigo magnolia flower. He’s left home and his business to be out here and find a cure.

Lü’mis and Emil kind of reveal themselves to be foils to one another – one has accepted his condition and learned to live with it, and one is desperate to reverse it. Lü’mis explains that he doesn’t see his vampirism as a sickness. Emil, on the other hand, is doing everything he can to stop this.

Ellis is switched into mission mode. Now that he knows the stakes, things need to get done! This was a dramatic episode! We are learning more about our boys every day.
