The boys have all leveled up! Emil is feeling stiff and dirty! But more importantly, they’re confused about Ellis’ new abilities, and he doesn’t really have much of an understanding of it (psst. he is multiclassing as a warlock now).
They decide to push through their exhaustion to try and make it back to Mistfall. This is where the exhaustion points begin. Pushing through opportunities to take long rests, the group tries to find places to be out of sight. Unfortunately, Emil steps into an alarmed trap.
In order to be a bit more sneaky as they’ve alerted whoever to their location, they decide to cut Gertrude free, burn the wagon with the plant, and just take the backpack full of this mysterious plant matter and continue on foot. People were waiting for this alarm to go off, however, and as the exhausted group tries to sneak through the woods, they are tracked down.
A dark blur of a creature catches up to them as they run ahead, and the group encounters a displacer beast, as well as a bunch of dudes with no good intentions for the three of them. The chase is on! The boys outsmart their pursuants with magical vines that Emil shoots up, Lü’s crazy effective fists, and Ellis’ newfound warlock abilities.
The assailants are out to capture the three of them, much like the group of Outlaws from the night before. The group fights off the displacer beasts and outlaws trying to catch them and push more through the woods. The suspense of the day, the loss of Gertrude, and the exhaustion of not resting has left the boys ragged, but safely at the gates of Mistfall.
